Round Sand Beetle

Description

These are one of the cutest beetles we’ve ever listed on the website. Although they are quite small, they are very unusual for carabids in their rounded shape, patterning and the comical mandibles they exhibit.

We keep these beetles with other carabids including Chlaenius and bombardier beetles and feed them frozen fruit flies or house flies, and drop in little bits of fish food pellets. Other bits of pet foods would work fine too, although the flies are probably fine alone as feeders.

These beetles like a little more moisture in the substrate than many others, although all carabidae family beetles like some moisture in the soil.
