Phyllovates chlorophaea, AKA “Texicorns” are a native US species with a very exotic flavor. They are brown and a bit striped looking. Their contrasting green wings at maturity have two black stripes on them. A unicorn-like horn adorns their head, hence the familiar common name “Texas Unicorn Mantis.” This is a great species for beginners. They get larger than most other species in the pet mantis hobby and who doesn’t love a native mantis?
Available as L2/L3 nymphs (have shed their skin one or two times). $19 each. D. hydei or house flies are recommended feeders for mantises this size. See related products below.
