Description
Dolomedes are a genus of very large spiders known as fishing spiders. This listing is for Dolomedes triton, the six-spotted fishing spider. These are perhaps the prettiest species of fishing spider in the US. No photo can do them justice with their semi-holographic green sheen under certain light/angles. They’re fast and aggressive towards small prey. We often see them at the edge of streams or ponds.
If you’re into a paludarium set up, this is the spider for you. They like a moist habitat vs other spiders and they’ll creep right up to the edge of the water and even rest on it from time to time. When afraid, they are capable of submerging themselves and hiding out for a while.
They can’t climb smooth surfaces but we do recommend a lid, just because it helps to hold the moisture in and dryness is their main enemy in set ups.
This listing is for a large female, sub-adult to adult. $18 ea
