Description
Phidippus purpuratus is the Marbled Purple Jumping Spider. This species ranges across the Northern US states and into Canada. They are also found in pockets of the East, to Florida.
Captive-bred spiderlings were born 9/5/2025 and are now available as of 12/13/25. They are 4th to 5th instar spiderlings and have been feeding on fruit flies since the first instar and so they are plenty stable on them. They are currently feeding on D. melanogaster fruit flies (related products, below).
Coloration and patterning in this species is quite variable, later at maturity, with base colors ranging from light to dark gray, and charcoal to nearly black. White spots and lines appear in some individuals and a black band often runs the middle of the abdomen. Some individuals will reflect metallic greens or purples, lending the common name Marbled Purple Jumping Spider to the species.
The three photos on this page are of the mother spider for your reference. Her chelicerae are a stunning aquamarine blue color! We can’t make any predictions on what her babies will look like when they mature, sorry.
