Description
Phyllovates chlorophaea, AKA “Texicorns” are a native US species with a very exotic flavor. They are brown and a bit striped looking. Their contrasting green wings at maturity have two black stripes on them. A unicorn-like horn adorns their head, hence the familiar common name “Texas Unicorn Mantis.” This is a great species for beginners. They get larger than most other species in the pet mantis hobby and who doesn’t love a native mantis?
Available as L3/L4 nymphs (have shed their skin two or three times). $19 each. D. hydei are recommended feeders for mantises this size although at L4 they are starting to take house flies. See related products below.
