This product consists of long shavings of aspen wood. It is often used in fruit fly cultures to give the flies a place to perch away from the moist media mixture beneath.

I ship 1 ounce (sandwich bag) of excelsior. Each bag is probably enough for two fruit fly cultures, though it depends on how tightly you like to pack the excelsior into the standard 32 ounce deli cups most people use to culture fruit flies in.
