Description

The jet black Rhantus atricolor diving beetle is typically a little larger than the ever popular sunburst diving beetle.

They have a semi-glossy look to them and are communal with the other species in their genus, Rhantus, as well as with Thermonectus and other diving and scavenger beetle species. They will group feed on dead insects like roaches or crickets which are living or freshly deceased, or house or fruit flies that are dropped onto the surface of the water, etc. They are not at all picky. We sometimes supplement them with fish food pellets.
