Complete Millipede Habitat Kits

This kit comes in two DIFFERENT forms. One is highly functional and this is the one I recommend. The other may look prettier but isn’t as good for millipedes as the lid is highly ventilated and dryness is the #1 killer of pet millipedes.

Option #1: The Functional Cage $34.99

Includes the following as pictured (1st and 2nd photos):

• Clear plastic shoebox container–It measures 13 5/8 X 8 1/4 X 4 7/8 inches, and with a good sealing white lid. Enough air transfer happens between the lid and container that you never need to punch holes in it. This is the ideal lid for a millipede habitat. As the seal isn’t airtight, all those delicious oxygen atoms pass right into the container while the humidity in the substrate is less likely to evaporate for at least a month. In this way you really don’t have to do ANYTHING for a month or more if your using the correct substrate. And on that note…
• Substrate: this kit comes with my custom blended “millipede composite substrate”. Substrate is both a food source for millipedes and should be kept moist. Dryness is the number one killer of pet millipedes. I do recommend a little bit of supplementation with the various foods recommended in my Pet Millipede Care Sheet.
• Half log hide: a 180 degree hide that should be buried partly into the substrate to provide a hiding place for the millipedes. They are burrowing creatures by habit and may find this bit of shelter to be a comfortable resting area. It also makes it a little easier to find them if you know where to look.

Option #2: The Display Cage $34.99

Includes the following products as pictured (3rd photo only):

• Rectangular Kritter Keeper–This is a standard pet store type of cage offering. It measures 9 X 5.5 X 5 inches high. I consider them to be inferior to the Option #1 cage that I offer, above, but they are arguably prettier and better for display of specimens. You may wish to place a sheet of wax paper or plastic wrap pinched between the lid and container to minimize ventilation.
• Composite blend substrate–This substrate is designed to be a complete food source, though I do recommend a little bit of supplementation with the various foods recommended in my Pet Millipede Care Sheet. Always keep the substrate moderately moist as this is your one buffer against the millipedes drying out.
• Half log hide: a 180 degree hide that should be buried partly into the substrate to provide a hiding place for the millipedes.
