This listing is for a small species of backswimmer. s live in freshwater creeks or ponds.

This listing is for a 5 pack of a small backswimmer species. Unlike the larger ones we sell separately, these smaller ones are not as predatory on their tank mates of similar size, or even slightly smaller including diving and water scavenger beetles. These occupy the open water in the middle sections of the water column itself, like Star Wars X-wings in open space. In this way they really fill out the tank space in an interesting fashion.

They breathe air through their abdomens and so water quality isn’t the same issue with them as it is with fish, etc. These predators suck the juices from small prey including the ostracods and Daphnia that we offer. They will also take pieces of frozen bloodworm that you can buy at many pet stores.

Current specimens are immatures or adults with indeterminate remaining lifespans. Adults have a lifespan of about 1 year, total. Do not release the adults into your backyard pond features, etc. They do not belong there.
