Phidippus arizonensis Arizona Jumping Spiderling

Description

Phidippus arizonensis is the Arizona Jumping Spider, which may seem poorly named since there are no confirmed records of it occurring in the state of Arizona. It was described by the famed Peckhams in 1883 (husband and wife team) before Arizona (or New Mexico) became states and may therefore refer to the Arizona Territory which was established in 1863. Arizona achieved statehood on Valentine’s Day of 1912. Valentine’s Day became popular in the US in the 1940’s. And so on…

Now offering 3rd to 4th instar spiderlings. They are currently feeding on D. melanogaster fruit flies (related products, below) and they are offered here unsexed only. Date of birth is March 2nd, 2026.

Note: Main photo on page is an adult male because they are so spectacular looking! Additional photos on this page include an adult female (the mother spider) and a young 3rd instar spiderling… the latter being, again, what are being offered through this sales listing on this page.

Females of the species vary wildly in their coloration with combinations of black and white and brown and red and orange.  This makes it very hard to describe them.

Males on the other hand are spectacular with their slate blue to black or gray coloration, sometimes with a metallic blue sheen in certain light. Their front legs are large, fuzzy and a beigy color. Most photos don’t do them justice.
