Ogrefaced Spider

Description

Deinopis spinosa has a very interesting hunting behavior where it holds a square of web and then drops it down over its prey, sort of like spiderman shooting a web over somebody.

They are called ogrefaced spiders and what a great name it is! Check out their ginormous eyes. These are one of the most striking species of spiders to photograph. Check out the photos and more info. at Bugguide.Net.

Available specimens range from about medium to large. Unsexed only, sorry. These are finicky eaters and so small foods are recommended and hand-feeding (via tweezers) may be necessary until they set up their webs. Live arrival guaranteed with overnight (per terms of service) but you’re on your own after that. A more difficult species.
