Description
Uroctonus mordax is known as the California Forest Scorpion. These are one of my personal favorite US scorpions in the US on account of their thicker claws and dark coloration.
This listing is for young captive-bred young scorpions at $12 each. Captive bred scorpions are rarely available anywhere!
They are about a centimeter long, still pale despite molting a few times, and currently feeding on D. hydei fruit flies or house flies which we pre-kill and squish a bit (sorry to those of you with delicate stomachs/brains) to make the capture more like an act of scavenging for them. And they’ve been doing well on this method of feeding since their first molt.
Indeed, they look like small versions of the hobby’s more familiar brownish-black forest or emperor scorpions. However, these are considerably smaller. Like other scorpions, they fluoresce brightly under UV light. It is not necessary to keep them as warm as exotic species. These like a moister habitat than desert species.
Note: photo is of an older specimen which we often offer through a separate listing on this site.
