Scaphinotus Snail Eating Beetle

Description

These oddly-shaped beetles measure about 1/2 of an inch in length. Yeah, their favorite food is snails but they will also scavenge pre-killed crickets or other soft-bodied offerings.

Give them moderate moisture in the substrate. These are nocturnal but leave their hiding places to wander the understory of forests and near waterways at night to seek out their prey.
