Description
Stegodyphus lineatus is the Lined Velvet Spider.
Currently available at 1/4″ in legspan and feeding on D. hydei fruit flies. $55 each, unsexed.
We feed them two or three times per week, and then less frequently as they grow (though they eat bigger prey, later). Their prey provides the majority of the moisture that they need.
We keep these very dry and only very lightly mist them every two weeks. We’ll have to put a video of this up on our YouTube Channel to demonstrate, but we just sort of mist the air above the tank so that fine droplets fall onto the moss around their retreats. They almost always amble out for a drink.
Conventional keeping practice is to place completely moss or excelsior (wood wool) at the bottom of the enclosure. They will web this up prolifically, making tunnels.
Room temperature is better than high heat, but 70 to 80 degrees is recommended.
