Description
Giant water scavenger beetles are rarely available and so if you see them listed here, move quick. If they are out of stock, get on the waiting list to be notified when they come in once or twice each year.

We mainly feed them algae (fish food) pellets or other fish foods in captivity. These scavenge on various things but have also been known to take down small, live fish. Not sure how, but that’s what the literature says. They also eat a lot of water plants and so you’d not want to put these in most planted tanks.
These are black and sometimes reflect a greenish light from certain angles, although admittedly the photo very much reflects a much greater depth of green than the beetles in stock currently. They measure an inch or so which is A LOT of beetle!
Most people feed them pet food pellets (fish or dog food). Don’t overfeed or the water will foul with uneaten food. A filter may be recommended, or weekly water changes. Some people change about 1/3 of the water each week if they are not using a filter. Don’t overfeed with these dried pet foods.
We often feed them insects like crickets or roaches and also have vegetation in their tanks. Some people offer them a few bits of frozen mixed vegetables. In all, they are not very picky, but they are pretty big eaters!
If you already got water bugs for us, this is a good tank mate for other water beetles in your already set up/seasoned tank. They are predatory to some extent but will generally leave other water beetles alone unless they are weak and dying, or die.
