Eleodes dentipes

Description

Eleodes dentipes is the Dentate Stink Beetle. Stink beetle is a regional term given to most any black beetle found by residents of the Southwest USA. In other places these same beetles are called darkling beetles.

This is a fairly large species at around an inch. They are also very glossy compared with most other tenebs (family tenebrionidae beetles). What distinguishes them from most other tenebs is the little denticle (tooth-like point) on the femur of each front leg.
