Vampire Crab

Description

Geosesarma sp. vampire crabs are small colorful arthropods from Sulawesi. They are unusual in that most other terrestrial crabs must return to the ocean to release planktonic larvae (that go through numerous, odd looking stages) but these do not. Immatures start out as very tiny replicas of their parents. The vampire crab immatures are cryptic and camoflaged in browns usually. They are terrestrial, but drink freshwater.

Babies $20 each. These are 3rd instar nauplii so they’re small but free living and cute as heck.
