Porcellio laevis desert isopods are also called smooth giant canyon isopods. These measure approximately 20 millimeters at maturity. Care requirements are similar to those of other isopods though these are often found in more humid micro-habitats within arid/desert areas of the SW USA. They do tolerate more dryness than most other hobby species. They are available in cultures of 15 individuals. Males are interesting in that their uropods can reach 3 mm in length. These tail-like appendages are equivalent to tails in their marine relatives, the lobster.
