Description
The Omorgus hide beetle is a very armored looking, cryptic insect. These very textured beetles measure a little over half an inch on average and do well in communal tanks with other desert beetles. We do, however, find that they prefer at least part of the tank to have some soil moisture.
$6 each.
These love jelly from the beetle jelly cups we offer, and we also feed them feathers, in addition to all the other normal foods we offer to the various desert beetles.
One customer reports that Omorgus that we sold her in the summer of 2022 are still alive, now in 2025!
Desert beetle tank set up and care video from my YouTube channel below (does not show Omorgus specifically).

These were some of my favorite beetles I bought from Peter. They are small and cute, play dead, and eat jellies. What more could you ask for?

Very unique looking beetles, they remind me of an armored variant of my edrotes ventrocosus. I have found these guys to be good climbers, as I’ve discovered more than one who have made their way to the top of the spider wood I have in the tank. They seem to love beetle jelly and the freeze dried river shrimp I offer

Got one of these guys and he gave me a heart attack upon unboxing as I didn’t realize they played dead. I got him for a communal beetle enclosure and planned to provide him some extra moisture. He immediately sought out the water dish and took a loooong drink. That’s where heart attack #2 came, as I thought he’d somehow managed to drown himself within 20 mins of being under my care. Nope he’s fine, just really thirsty after his travels. I also wetted a corner of the sand and once he’d drank his body weight and snacked a bit, he burrowed into the wet sand overnight. Quickly became one of my faves once I recovered from the rapid-fire heart attacks.
