Description
Apheloria tigana, Black and Yellow Flat Millipedes reach nearly 2 inches in length. 9 years ago the hobby’s only supplier for this species, Perry Adkison, unexpectedly passed away. It’s taken me this long to find another source for them. These are hands down the best flat millipede to ever enter the millipede hobby. Unlike most other flat millipedes besides Euryurus, these are the only ones to do decently well in captivity.
Photos of this species can be viewed at Bugguide. One of the specimens in my photo on this page has spots down the middle and that is probably the similar species Apheloria virginiensis, but the other with spots along the sides is A. tigana.
Currently at 1 to 2 inches.
I do recommend the millipede substrate with hardwood cup for this species as flat millipedes do especially like properly decayed wood.
