Description
Dendrostreptus macracanthus, the Giant Glossy Black Pinkleg Millipede.
Among the millipedes available in the hobby this one is a great combination of size and coloration. With the exception of AGB’s, this is the longest millipede in hobby reaching about 8 inches. Their pink legs are in stark contrast to the glossy black body. They are an arboreal species and quite active. Due to their tendency to excrete more of the defensive liquids than most other millipedes, care must be taken when handling them. They don’t tend to spiral-up like AGB’s when you touch them. They remain quite active. If held carefully and allowed to chart their own course, they are less likely to excrete. Rough handling or pinching to pick them up will get the juices flowing.
For their size and activity levels, this is arguably the best display species in the hobby.
Approximately 4 inch specimens.
Millipedes require a substrate of mixed organic matter (see related products, below).
