Description
Theatops species are referred to as Forceps Centipedes at Joseph DeSisto’s Blog. They are orange to red-orange in coloration and may reach as much as 3 inches.
Current specimens are 1.25 to 1.5 or so inches!
The most interesting aspect about them is their terminal legs. These are short and thick and terminate in a distinct point. This point probably serves both defensive and offensive purposes, but it is a morphologically unique detail among the centipedes seen in the hobby.
These are venomous but not considered more painful than a bee sting (usually far less painful).
