Description

You can order these with feeder blue bottle flies with priority mail (the non-living shipping option but with a live guarantee), but be advised they may hatch along the way. Sometimes we ship them as larvae, or partially as larvae, but generally they ship as pupae. Larvae will tend to pupate along the way.

These are sold as pupae. These have issues with shipping in the summer months as older pupae and so I’ve modified this listing to allow for flexibility in the stage of fly that is shipping to you. It may be larvae (maggots) or pupae or a combination of both. This is actually a response to the experience that many customers have in properly getting their adult flies to eclose. Through having access to larvae and fresher pupae, you will have a better chance of successfully eclosing adult flies.

You can place larvae, pupae and adult flies in the refrigerator to extend their lives. Pupae should be removed every day or so for an hour to help them continue to develop.

While the photo is of house fly pupae around the coin, this listing is for larger blue bottle fly pupae. Blue bottle flies are great feeders for many things, especially larger mantis nymphs and adults which may be less interested in crawling foods. They arrive in the convenient life stage (pupae…sort of like cocoons) in the photo above and then hatch out as adult flies usually within a few days unless you place them in the refrigerator.

Simple to use. Just add as many pupae to your pet’s enclosure as you wish. Warmer temps will cause them to emerge more quickly. You can refrigerate all or a portion of your pupae if you want them to last longer but they do have a shelf life. They need to be removed from the fridge for a few hours every other day or so, ideally. This helps their development into adult flies to continue. And then, once hatched they can also be stored in the fridge to prolong their lives. A bit of sponge dipped in sugar water will give them a little energy and also lengthen their lives.

$3.00 for 50 pupae.
